Abstract

Andronik Gevondovich Iosifyan (July 21, 1905 – April 13, 1993) was a renowned Russian military electrical engineer, scientist in electromechanics, Doct. Eng. Sci., and the first director, founder, and Chief Designer (from 1941 to 1974) of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Electromechanics (VNIIEM). He was a versatile inventor and scientific director who created, developed, designed, and was the ideological inspiration for all areas of the VNIIEM Corporation JSC activities. The article presents a biographic essay about A.G. Iosifyan, compiled from the memoirs of his wife Taisiya Grigoryevna Sergievskaya, journalist Tatyana Borisovna Troitskaya, and his numerous students and associates. The article describes the military plant established in September 1941 on the initiative and under the leadership of A.G. Iosifyan. The enterprise developed and manufactured electrical engineering products for military purposes, and in subsequent years, automated design systems, unified series of electrical machines, computers for the control and monitoring of large systems, several generations of control computers, and automatic control systems for nuclear power plants. A.G. Iosif'yan's work in the field of electrical equipment for the navy and rocket and space technology is described. The main engineering areas established by A.G. Iosif'yan continue to be developed by his students and followers.
